Jim Smiley & Dan'l Webster?
Jim Smiley, according to Twain's yarn, had bragged to everyone just how far his pet frog, Dan'l Webster, would jump. A couple of visiting New Yorkers heard his boast and told him they figured Dan'l Webster wasn't any different than any old frog that could be caught in the town cistern. Smiley couldn't resist and the bet was on. He went off to find them a frog, leaving Dan'l Webster in their care. They in turn, procured some buckshot and filled old Dan'l full. Well, needless to say, when the contest started, poor Dan'l couldn't budge. Smiley paid
off the slickers. Find out more history by clicking this link: History of The Jumping Frog.
What Do You Do With A Gold Tooth? Is It Worth Money?
I know that I can bring all of my rings, bracelets and chains in, but what about these old gold teeth? Do you buy dental gold? The answer to that is absolutely yes! Genuine gold is in fact sometimes used in dentistry. Not sure about the karat or weight? No problem...gold specialists will be able to test your dental gold and offer you a payout than may surprise you!
With dental caps, fillings and bridgework, other elements have to be added to the gold to withstand the environment of your mouth. Pure gold is far too soft. Dental gold is usually made of 16-karat gold, an alloy that contains other metals such as silver, zinc and copper. In the testing process, it generally tests as 14 karat. Unlike jewelry which is very bendable, the dental gold is hard due to the other metals mixed with the gold.
We take all your scrap and we clean every bit of it down to bear metal on site while we’re there. Then we test and weigh every piece individually for its gold content. Once we find out whats in that all the scrap and know what we’re buying we can then pay you the maximum dollar amount.
Many families actually keep the dental gold from loved ones that have passed away, and it sits in a drawer, forgotten. Many people don't know what to do with their gold teeth. It's easy...we would love to buy them!
Call us or stop into our store for more information about your dental gold!

Private History of the ‘Jumping Frog’ Story
In "Private History of the ‘Jumping Frog’ Story," he recounted some background to the tale—in particular, his surprise to find that the story bore a striking resemblance to an ancient Greek tale. He wrote:
Now, then, the interesting question is, did the frog episode happen in Angel’s Camp in the spring of ‘49, as told in my hearing that day in the fall of 1865? I am perfectly sure that it did. I am also sure that its duplicate happened in Boeotia a couple of thousand years ago. I think it must be a case of history actually repeating itself, and not a case of a good story floating down the ages and surviving because too good to be allowed to perish.
Later, however, in November 1903, Twain noted:
When I became convinced that the "Jumping Frog" was a Greek story two or three thousand years old, I was sincerely happy, for apparently here was a most striking and satisfactory justification of a favorite theory of mine—to wit, that no occurrence is sole and solitary, but is merely a repetition of a thing which has happened before, and perhaps often.... By-and-by, in England, after a few years, I learned that there hadn't been any Greek frog in the business, and no Greek story about his adventures. Professor Sidgwick [in his textbook for students learning to translate English texts into Greek, Greek Prose Composition, p. 116] had not claimed that it was a Greek tale; he had merely synopsized the Calaveras tale and transferred the incident to classic Greece; but as he did not state that it was the same old frog, the English papers reproved him for the omission. He told me this in England in 1899 or 1900, and was much troubled about that censure, for his act had been innocent, he believing that the story's origin was so well known as to render formal mention of it unnecessary.
But in his Note To The Thirteenth Edition (1907), among "hearty .. thanks for the help received", Prof. Sidgwick still failed to acknowledge his use of the Twain tale.

Angels Camp More Than Just Frogs?
To be honest, Angels Camp, California, has a lot more going for it besides frogs--but frogs are the number one draw, ever since a gent named Samuel Clemens, er, Mark Twain, penned a story about Jim Smiley and his pet jumping frog, Dan'l Webster. Twain reputedly heard the story from Ross Coon, proprietor of the Angels Hotel, which still stands at the corner of State Highway 49 and Birds Way. Back in 1865, placer mining had about played out and most of the miners were working for wages at the "hard rock" mines. In off hours, their obsession was gambling--betting on nearly anything, including how far a frog would jump.
